Botanical name – Coix lachryma – jobi

Description – Erect, perennial herb, upto 1.5 m high with basal rooting nodes; leaves linear lanceolate, midrib stout, male/female peduncles; fruits subglobose.

Chemical Constituents- Roots contain phenols, adenosine. Grain contains leucine, tyrosine, histidine, lycine.

Use – Grains used in affections of air passage and urinary tract. Seed cathartic and depurative and used as a diet drink for invalids, also for pneumomycosis and pectoral diseases
