Botanical name – Nigella sativa

Description – This consists of the black angular seeds of Nigella sativa Linn. Of the family Ranunculaceae.

Chemical Constituents- It contains essential oil, toxic glucoside, melanthin, bitter Substances, saponin, fixed oil, resins and tannin.

Use – The drug is carminative, diuretic, emmenagogue, stimulant and abortificient. It is useful in prevention and treatment of mild puerperal Fevers. As a paste with sesame oil applied to skin diseases.
