Botanical name – Corchorus olitorius
Description – Much branched herbs. Leaves elliptic-oblong with serratures on each side prolonged into a filiform appendage. Flowers pale yellow. Capsule linear, 5-valved
Chemical Constituents- Fruits contain vitamin C. Seeds contain olitoriside, olitoriside A, veticoside, corchorosides A and B, strophanthidin, corchorgenin, corchoralic acid, Beta-sitosterol , saponin.
Use – Infusion of leaves used as tonic and febrifuge; also as a demulcent in cystitis and dysuria.
