Botanical name – Dioscorea bulbifera

Description – Climbers with stem twining to left bearing bulbils in leaf axils. I eaves simple, cordate. Capsule oblong; seed winged at base only

Chemical Constituents- Tubers contain furanoid norditerpenes – Diosbulbins A, G, volatile acids, calcium oxalate, phenolics. Bulbils contain demethyl-batatasin IV, dihydrosrilbene -dihydroresveratrol.

Use – Tubers in powder form applied to ulcers, also used in piles and dysentery
