Description – Aquatic, trailing or floating herbs rooting at nodes, stem hollow. Leaf cordate-hastate. Flowers white or purple, solitary or in cymes. Capsule ovoid, smooth

Chemical Constituents- Plant yields essential oil. Young shoots and leaves contain carotenoids, B-carotene, xanthophyll and traces of taraxanthin, hentriacontane, sitosterol, sitosterol glucoside. Leaves contain vitamin E.

Use – Juice used as emetic in opium and arsenic poisoning. Plant useful for women suffering from nervous and general debility– Laxative or purgative
