Description – Scandent shrubs with tubercles on stem. Leaves gland-dotted, with characteristic pits on the sides of the midrib. Flowers white, in panicles. Drupe globose

Chemical Constituents- Fruits contain embelin, quercitol, alkaloids christembine tannins and minute quantity of volatile oil; also contains vilangin

Use – The drug is reputed as an efficient anthelmintic. It is also astringent and antipyretic. The water extract is antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureaus and Escherichia coli. It is used in the treatment of ascariasis
